As part of National Heroin and Opiate Awareness Week, Loyola University joins with the U.S. Department of Justice for an important public program on the opioid and prescription drug abuse epidemic that has swept the country.
Chasing the Dragon was produced by the FBI and DEA with the hopes that it would lead to a greater understanding of the dangers of the addiction, its impact on both the victim and their loved ones, and the often-deadly consequences of opioid abuse.
Following the 45-minute documentary, a panel featuring U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite, Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffery Rouse, representatives from the FBI and DEA, and a family member who lost a loved one to overdose will discuss the cycle of addiction and explore what can be done to help reverse the cycle and save a life, save a friend, or save a loved one.
