Time: 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm

Location: Monroe Hall 152

Environmental Roundtables are facilitated discussions of important environmental issues, hosted by the Loyola University Environment Program. Facilitators include Environment Program Faculty and guest hosts.

Dr. David White, from the Biology Department and the Environment Program, will facilitate a discussion entitled

Science "knowings" will begin this provocative hour. "Evidence based learnings" of Science are what created the concern for our "Environment".  This "movement" has grown immensely in recent decades.  Dr. White feels strongly that the fact-based power of supportive "Science" is forgotten by many.  Learnings of his during the decades at Loyola gained through teaching, student/colleague interaction, research, travels, and Louisiana life, have made him wiser about the challenges ahead.  Some of these learnings will be brought up for discussion in the short hour of his reflections at this event.  Dr. White's awareness of the environmental passion in students gives him encouragement that generations to come will continue to push world change for the better - though it will be a distant better future, he is afraid.  This all is a wise "liberal" view gained from the idea of what "higher" education should be about - though, all too often feared and suppressed. The explorative human mind is indeed generational progress.  Come, join the sponsoring Environment Program folks, and explore with gratitude for the opportunity.  As Dr. White likes to say - "the mind is a terrible thing to waste".  There will be some time for open discussion - but never, never enough!

Location: Audubon Room, 2nd Floor, Danna Center

The election is over. The election campaigning has been described as the most divisive in recent history. Many of us are saddened and disappointed while others of us might feel elated. Know that regardless of your political affiliation, country of origin, or position on issues, we are here to support you. We encourage you to take care of yourself and remember that you’re not alone.

As a University committed social justice, critical thinking and reflection, and contemplative vision formed by hope, we feel that it is important to offer a safe space for processing feelings and emotions. We invite you to join us in the Audubon Room on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. to engage in a conversation about recent happenings and how we can work together as a community to collaborate and find common ground despite our differences. Conversations such as these will be important today, tomorrow, and over the next several weeks as we move forward as a nation.

If you would like a quiet space to process your feelings, please feel free to utilize the Manresa Den located in Bobet Hall. The Manresa Den is open during the following hours:

Thursday: 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Student Government will also be leaving art supplies in the residence hall lobbies and commuter lounge for anyone wishing to spread kindness. We encourage you to take a moment to write a note of positivity, draft a letter of affirmation, or draw a symbol of critical hope that is meaningful for you and share it with a friend or loved one. You may also drop off your notes to the Department of Student Involvement to be hung in the One Loyola Room as we celebrate the end of Loyola Week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Courtney Williams in Student Involvement at
