Skills Course - SKL-SOCJ-011119: COPAA Special Education Advocacy Training

The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA), a national nonprofit, is pleased to offer this training open to law students. The training provides an overview of special education law, including: the referral process, prior written notice, eligibility, evaluations, free and appropriate education (FAPE), related services, individualized education programs (IEP), basis for services, placement and least restrictive environment, transition plans, due process and the “stay put” provision, and mediation. It covers right to attorney fees as well. The training is intended as an introductory skill-building training for attorneys new to the practice of special education law. Participants explore special education law as it relates to both traditional public schools and charter schools, and learn the importance of securing appropriate services and supports for students with disabilities.

Student Exhibition: Hive Mind

A combined effort between the current and the graduated, Hive Mind is a collaborative project for the Loyola University New Orleans alumni show. The artwork shown in the gallery is all created by Loyola University alumni and this year, curated by current students themselves as they learn the ins and outs of the curatorial arts. The students did much of the work themselves, from beginning to end, in Prof. Lee Deigaard’s “Curating: History and Practice.”
