Finding Common Ground Film Screening

Time: 8 pm to 9 pm

Contact: Dr. Robert Thomas · rathomas@loyno.edu

Location: Louisiana Public Broadcasting Stations

Finding Common Ground is a recently-released documentary exploring “traditional ecological knowledge” and its importance in planning for coastal restoration in Louisiana’s Mississippi River Delta. Award-winning documentary producer Kevin McCaffrey teamed up with co-Executive Producer Dr. Robert “Bob” Thomas, Director of Loyola University’s Center for Environmental Communication, to produce this rich and informative first-hand look at the existential crisis unfolding in Louisiana’s disappearing wetlands. Taking audiences places they’ve heard of, but possibly never seen, in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes, adjacent to the Mississippi River, such as Mardi Gras Pass and Myrtle Grove, the film focuses on the discussion over diversions and dredging as restoration Master Plan strategies. Participants can learn about this complex environmental challenge, and some of the proposed solutions, through the eyes and voices of local residents, scientists, fishermen, and policy-makers. Director Kevin McCaffrey and Dr. Thomas, a widely-respected player in efforts to educate the public about Louisiana’s disappearing coast, and will be on hand to answer questions following the 90-minute film

Prime time broadcast on Louisiana Public Broadcasting stations on Friday, April 21, 8 p.m.
