Loyola Theatre: Anton in Show Business

Time: 8 pm to 10 pm

Contact: Jess Brown · jlbrown@loyno.edu · 504-861-5882

Location: Lower Depths Theater, 1st Floor, Comm./Music Complex

Cost: $12 general admission; $8 students, faculty, staff Get Tickets

Loyola University Theatre will debut their production of the madcap comic play, Anton in Show Business.  Written by Jane Martin, Anton in Show Business is a comedy based on three actresses who have been cast in an ill-fated production of Anton Chekhov's play, "The Three Sisters." The play looks at what it takes to produce classical theatre in a modern world and the zany antics that ensue.  The show is best described as an open love letter to theatre.

Director Ann Mahoney Kadar will direct an all-female cast, which has been customary since it premiered in 2000 at the Humana Festival in Louisville and received the American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award in 2001.  The cast takes on gender roles, stereotypes and the mysteries of life in award-winning playwright Jane Martin's farcical backstage exploration of the relationships between art and audience and show business.  The author has made certain that those without prior knowledge of "Sisters" will be able to fully appreciate Anton's satiric and farcical humor as well as its measure of pathos.

Anton in Show Business will run in the Lower Depths Theater at Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Avenue (Corner of Calhoun and St. Charles), February 8, 9, 10, 11 @ 8:00 p.m. and February 12 @ 2:00 p.m.

$12 General Admission
$8 students, seniors, faculty and staff

Free parking is available during the performance in the West Road garage, located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.
