Loyola University New Orleans will close out the 48 Hour Film Project Filmapalooza with a special International Film Forum Monday, March 10 at 4:45 p.m. in Roussel on Loyola's main campus.

The free, public forum features a screening of finalist films—including the worldwide premiere of the festival’s winning short film—to begin at 4:45 p.m., with a panel of filmmakers and producers from around the world set to come onstage at 5 p.m. The Loyola event represents the first screening of the winners’ films open to the public.

Co-sponsored by the university, the Israeli Consulate and the 48 Hour Film Project, Loyola’s International Film Forum is hosted by Loyola video technology professor and artist-in-residence Jim Gabour.

Featured speakers include:

  • Yochai Shalom Hadad, an award-winning filmmaker and poet from Jerusalem known for his film, “Thou Shall Not Dance,” that tells the story of a group of religious men who decide to establish a school for modern dance;
  • Siphamandla Ngcobo of Zero Three One Films in Durban, South Africa;
  • T.L. Westgate of Creative Inlet Films in Orlando, Fla.;
  • Olivier Dussausse, the head of the 48 Hours competition for France; and
  • Mark Ruppert, founder and executive producer of the worldwide 48 Hour Film Project competition.

The 48 Hour Film Project, through its mission to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers, hosts weekend competitions in 120 cities worldwide in which teams write, shoot, edit and score films in just 48 hours. The Filmapalooza festival features screenings from city-winning films from the 48 Hour Film Project tour stops around the world. The awards ceremony will follow the final screening Sunday, including “Best Film of City” trophies as well as international awards. The Filmapalooza schedule is available online.
