This exhibition, which has traveled widely in the United States and Europe, features an overlooked body of work by noted photographer and educator Gary Metz of the American vernacular landscape. Made in the 1970s, the images remain as relevant today as they were 40 years ago, when Metz and others of his generation began to wrench photography out of the sublime precincts of the national parks and to highlight instead the transitory, hybrid, and even humorous aspects of the everyday landscape.
