Most Catholic schools, and especially Jesuit high schools and universities, celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of every school year. It is a tradition almost as old as the Society of Jesus itself, going back to the first Jesuit school in Messina, Sicily in 1548.
At Loyola University New Orleans, we are the only Jesuit university in the country to house a college of music and fine arts. Students and faculty from the vocal, instrumental, and dance divisions all contribute to celebrate this Mass in a truly spectacular way!
All 11 a.m. classes are canceled so the entire Loyola community may attend.
Faculty and staff will meet in Ignatius Chapel at 11 a.m. to process to Holy Name of Jesus Church. Professional attire (NOT academic regalia) is requested.
Students wearing their club or organization t-shirt or uniform will meet at 11am on the Horseshoe side of Holy Name to process in with their club or organization.
