Aristophanes, translated and adapted by Karen Rosenbecker
There is nothing rational about the economy, for Athens the bailout has arrived!
The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Theatre Arts & Dance and director Artemis Preeshl present economics and ideology with a fresh new version of Aristophanes final extant comedy Wealth.
Wealth tells the story of the poor Chremylos, who befriends the blinded Plutus, god of wealth, and encourages him to distribute riches to the deserving and virtuous. Set in contemporary post-war Athens, the “have nots” are rising up to confront the “haves.”
Karen Rosenbecker, Assistant Professor of Languages and Cultures translates and adapts this dark satirical comedy for a contemporary audience.
