The FYE Common Experience theme of community resilience is exemplified by the Common Film for the class of 2019, which tells the story of the Mardi Gras Indians, as told by filmmaker Aaron Walker, who chronicled the experiences of three Mardi Gras Indian chiefs in the years before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. Named the Best Louisiana Feature Award at the New Orleans Film Fest in 2010 and winner of the Grand Prize and Intangible Culture Award at the Royal Anthropologic Institute Festival of Ethnographic Film, Bury the Hatchet has been selected for screening at numerous film festivals.

This event is open only to members of the Loyola community.
