John Goodman, the film and television actor famous for his iconic roles in Roseanne, The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou? makes a special appearance at Loyola University New Orleans Monday, Nov. 25 to discuss his expansive career and offer a sneak peek at his new film, Inside Llewyn Davis.
The film screening is set for 3:15 p.m. in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola’s main campus. An hour-long forum hosted by Loyola professor Jim Gabour will immediately follow the screening.
Goodman, who won a 1993 Golden Globe for his role as Dan Conner on the television series Roseanne, is also noted for his contributions to more than 50 films, including prominent roles in the Coen brothers’ movies Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou?
Goodman’s voice work has appeared in numerous Disney films, including Monsters, Inc. He has won two American Comedy Awards and hosted Saturday Night Live 14 times.
Written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund and Justin Timberlake, Inside Llewyn Davis follows a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Guitar in tow and huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, Davis is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Living at the mercy of both friends and strangers and scaring up what work he can find, Davis’ misadventures take him on an odyssey to audition for a music mogul—and back again.
Inside Llewyn Davis won the Grand Prix award at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The film represents the Coen Brothers’ fourth collaboration with Grammy and Academy Award-winning music producer T Bone Burnett. Marcus Mumford is associate music producer.
Inside Llewyn Davis opens in New Orleans theaters Friday, Dec. 20.
