In honor of our new pope, Medieval Studies presents “Francesco,” the 1989 docu-drama about the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, highlighting his conversion from the pampered son of a rich merchant to heroic ascetic and humanitarian. Mickey Rourke is at his dramatic best as Saint Francis, while Helena Bonham Carter portrays Saint Clare of Assisi, Francis’s childhood friend and co-religious enthusiast. This free screening will take place at Loyola University New Orleans on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public and set for Bobet Hall, room 332. To introduce the film, Loyola’s Provost Distinguished Professor of the History of Christianity, Dr. Denis Janz, will lead a short discussion on the real Saint Francis of Assisi.  As usual, refreshments will be served.
